Lazy Chef's Boerewors Sausage Rolls - by Kirst

Lazy Chef's Boerewors Sausage Rolls

All the flavour, none of the fuss. Juicy Boerewors wrapped in crisp, golden puff pastry, with optional sautéed onions and a homemade tomato and chilli relish. An easy crowd-pleaser for parties, picnics or a savoury treat.

Ingredients:
Ready-made puff pastry (I'm not auditioning for MasterChef)
Boerewors
Onion, sautéed (optional — mine had onions, his didn't)

Method:

Cook Boerewors 50-60% through in pan then let wors finish cooking when it's wrapped in pastry in the oven
Sauté onions in the same pan. Obviously. Less washing up.
Cut wors into pieces.
Cut pastry into rectangles, add the wors and onions, and wrap into little sausage-roll parcels.
Pop into a preheated oven at 200°C for about 20 minutes, until golden and puffed up.
Serve

Optional: Homemade Tomato & Chilli Relish

Ingredients:
Chopped fresh tomatoes
Chilli
Chopped onion
A splash of vinegar
Sugar to taste
Salt and pepper
Method:
Gooi the lot into a pot, bring to the boil and simmer until thick, relishy and delicious.

  • This is my winner for the competition. Boerie Boerewors in a sausage roll 😋 the best of both worlds South Africa and UK! Ideal for winter and easy to prepare. Comfort food from the oven 😋
